The LEONARDO funded project "Upskilling Business Advisors" (UBA)
finished on Sep, 30th. But work in the five countries involved
continues: The adapted manual for community based business advisors will
be used and spread by the project partners. Case studies and research
reports will help to improve the work of authorities, NPOs and social
enterprises working in community based business advice. All material is
still available on this website and we hope you will use it to promote
the development of quality standards for business advice to benefit with
excluded communities.
The following products are available for download on this website.

Final UBA conference: Products and results
Written by Elena Knaack Wednesday, 29 September 2010 11:45
As the final dissemination event of the LEONARDO project “Upskilling business advisors” (UBA), the conference on Sep, 13th in London presented results and products of the partnership, aiming to improve the quality of business advice to those who experience poverty and social exclusion. The conference was chaired by Ruth Lowbridge, Executive Chair of SFEDI.
All material – case studies from the 5 UBA countries, reports on the work of UBA and the adaptions of the SFEDI manual “How to become a brilliant community based business advisor” – can be downloaded on this website.
As a main result of UBA and the congerence, the need for (common) quality standards in business advice has been pointed out by speakers as well as participants from different European countries. Standards and training material such as provided by SFEDI guide people on their way to becoming a successful business advisor working with special target groups. To that, standards lead to a higher degree of transparency, facilitating the client´s choice of a business advisor.

The final UBA conference will be held at St. Martin in the Fields in London on the 13th of September 2010. At this occasion, Business Advisers working on diverse target groups in different countries will be invited to exchange about their respective experience and to familiarize with the adapted manual for each partner country, allowing a decisive step towards agreed standards in terms of quality on a European level.
At the same time, the final conference will provide an opportunity for the European Community Based Business Advisers network, that was launched at the UBA-Partnership meeting in Lisbon at the end of March, to come together for the first time.
